Newcastle Gateshead

Expect the unexpected in this fast changing, wildly contemporary and fabulously historic city famed across the world for its captivating welcome. The fantastic regeneration of the quaysides of Newcastle and Gateshead are at the forefront of the redevelopment of this area into "one of the most cultural cities in the world" according to Newsweek International.

BALTIC The Centre for Contemporary Art

BALTIC, the major new international centre for contemporary art lies right at the heart of the regeneration of Gateshead Quays. The exhibitions are constantly changing, allowing the North-East to experience the best of contemporary art from many sources. The building also contains three restaurants run by the McCoy brothers.

Gateshead Millennium Bridge

The Gateshead Millennium Bridge - the first opening bridge to be built across the River Tyne for more than 100 years - has attracted world-wide attention because of its unique design. The world-first design is the latest addition to the Tyne's famous collection of bridges - which have given the area one of the most instantly recognisable skylines in Europe. The bridge was the winner of the 2002 RIBA Stirling Prize.

Centre for Life

At the Life Science Centre, the North's premier science centre, discover just how truly amazing life is. Explore where life comes from and how it works.

The MetroCentre

Explore and Discover the exciting world of Retail Therapy at MetroCentre, where you can find a whole host of small unique shops in themed areas alongside popular high street names – Marks & Spencer, Bhs, Littlewoods, House of Fraser, Argos, Gap and Next.

The Gate

You’ll find new bars, cafes, restaurants and a new 12 screen Odeon cinema, all under one roof, all open until 2am, this is just the start of something big!

Druridge Bay Country Park

A large, sweeping sand and shingle bay backed by sand dunes where it is always possible to find your own private spot along the beach and dunes. The northern half of the bay is part of Druridge Bay Country Park, where there is a large water sports lake.

Wallington Hall

Original formality underlies the ‘natural’ landscape in which walks offer a variety of lawns, shrubberies, lakes and woodland enlivened with buildings, sculpture and water features. In a sheltered valley beyond the China Pond is the beautiful walled garden with its collection of plants, and the abundant conservatory.

Cragside Country House and Gardens

No wonder it was described as ‘the Palace of a Modern Magician’. Around and below the house is one of Europe’s largest rock gardens; across the valley lies the terraced garden. Here exotic fruits were nurtured throughout the year in glasshouses, and still are today in the Orchard House. Seven million trees and bushes were planted to cover the bare hillside and create the 404ha (1000-acre) forest garden you can explore today.
